Wine Tasting & Apples & Smiling Buddha

Where Questions End

A Gathering of Compassion

A Gathering of Compassion

look at the wine taster... consider -

is the wine taster trying
to taste or get the taste

is the taste in the tongue or the wine

to answer... you see...

the way of the Wind... Breath... Spirit...

can anyone ever get anything

if you reply yes... i invite you
to keep trying

you may need to until
effort becomes drudgery

some are like kites trying
to fly the breeze

if you reply no... i ask
what can you do

something...

but what

An apple becomes an apple. An apple is. No one makes an apple an apple. An apple does not make itself an apple. A tree does not make apples apples, yet they appear.

Thus, where does an apple come from? Anywhere? Is an apple before the tree? Or after the tree? Or do they arise together?

This question of apples becoming and being apples has been discussed for many centuries by the greatest intellectuals. Sages and saints have entertained, at length, the matter. Religions have given us their answers to the conundrum. It still remains, and people the world over keep asking it.

when you answer one question
1,000 rise from the ground

with one explanation
1,000 fall from the sky

you cannot say a tree makes a tree without
'what makes a tree a tree'

if God is God
where did God come from

did Jesus
really walk on water

why is there something
rather than nothing

how can energy be
at the same time, particle and wave

this never
ends

except
in silence

and, it would be fitting... too
a big belly laugh
or a gentle smile

have you noticed
the sitting Buddha always
wears a subtle smile...

he knows something about
where all the questions come from and
where they end

and

the answers we most need
can never be gotten

so what
can we do

something...

but what
